WELCOME TO OKINAWA!
All travelers will be picked up at Naha airport and taken to Condominium Felicita (private apartments), Hotel Resonex or similar accommodation. Then
you will enjoy free time to take a first glimpse of the Okinawan capital and to explore the surroundings. The port, where we will take a ferry on day 3, is just
a few moments away on walk.
THE RYUKYU LEGACY
Before enjoying what Okinawa has to offer, let’s take a look to its historical past.
Following breakfast, we will visit the Shuri Castle where the Ryukyu kings lived for centuries from where they ruled most of the Okinawan islands. Nearby we will find the charming
Tamaudun Mausoleum dedicated to the royal family.
Then we will wander around Shikinaen Garden -the second residence of the former Ryukyu kings- before we head to the
Okinawa Prefectural Museum to learn a bit more about the history of these islands.
We will finish this first encounter with Okinawa having a look at Kokusaidori, the famous shopping street of Naha.
It’s time for wonderful green islands with heavenly beaches and coral reefs at Kerama Islands, so we will take a morning jetfoil to
Aka island and check in at Cha Villa Hanamuro Inter-Islanders' Hotel or similar. We will devote this day to
enjoy the fabulous natural beauty of this small paradise. Kerama islands are full of possibilities: renting an electric bike to ride the island through its trails, renting a kayak to reach nearby tiny uninhabited islands, taking a look to the National Park at Zamami…
BACK TO NAHA
Rushing is one of the worse experiences in a tour, so we will take our time to enjoy the last hours in this shiny and peaceful islands before taking a ferry back to Naha. Upon arrival, we will check in at our hotel,
relax and pack things for the next day.
A 40 minutes flight will take us to the wonderful island of Yoron. After checking in at Pricia Resort hotel or similar, we will head to the
Folk Village where we will soak in local culture. Following this visit, we will get to
the best beach of the island:
Yurigahama, famous for its ghost coast that secretly emerges to the surface once in a while. Pure white sand under a wonderful blue sky!
It is impossible to get lost in this island, so you will have the freedom
to spend the day as you wish: at the swimming pool of the hotel, wandering around the inner paths of the island, snorkeling, getting a tan at the
pristine beaches or going around the island bordering the coast into an electric bicycle, for example.
On day 7 we will take a flight to Miyako island. If you enjoyed Yoron, then you have arrived to the right island to continue the activities that you just left in Yoron or even broaden them! We will check in at the lovely Hotel Sea Breeze Casual or similar and then we will try to
watch the sunset from the coast. You may also opt for an early dinner to sleep right away and then
waking up to witness the sunrise. What a wonderful experience in the middle of a tiny island somewhere in the ocean!
DANCING WITH THE SEA CREATURES
Miyako’s waters are rich in fishes and turtles, so if we are lucky we will be able to
snorkel through shoals of tropical fish full of bright colors. The coral reefs in Miyako are even more beautiful than in Yoron and probably so are the beaches. Unspoiled nature, ancient towns, wild horses and overwhelming cliffs are awaiting from now on, so
enjoy these heavenly coasts to the upmost!
A 35 minutes flight will take us to Ishigaki, our ´home base´ from which we will discover nearby islands. Our plan will consist of checking in at Art Hotel Ishigakijimae hotel or similar and taking a special bus that will drop us at the main spots of this strategic location.
We will cover the whole island within one long day: a common Chinese grave, a black pearl cultivation site surrounded by emerald blue waters, wonderful beaches and other places.
This is a tiny island and yet it deserves a whole day.
Taketomi is our favorite island and probably yours after you complete this heavenly adventure.
A quick trip in ferry will take us to the port, from where
we will rent an electric bicycle. Then we will ride to the
beach and enjoy some free time to walk and discover how
nice and quiet it can be. Following this, we will head to
the heart of Taketomi town, where you will see
ancient streets and
houses populated by locals proud of their culture. Okinawan happy monsters on top of their roofs serve as evidence of this! And watch your back as you ride the tranquil streets made of stone,
water buffalos may get in your way!
PANAISARA WATERFALL ADVENTURE
This is a very special day because the views that you are about to witness and the whole adventure is brand new in this Heavenly Okinawa tour. We will take a ferry to
Iriomote island and we will climb up to the Panaisara waterfall crossing a forest where lots of animal endemic species inhabit. You will be able to see most of the island and the sea from the top of the waterfall, a picture very difficult to forget.
If the group members are not physically fit enough to make it, an
alternative visit to Idanohama beach or mangrove experience will take place in this unspoiled wild island.
YONAGUNI: THE WESTERNMOST TERRITORY OF JAPAN
Following breakfast, we will take a comfortable ferry to
Yonaguni island and check in at Irifune Annex Bamboo Villa or similar.
This remote island is a mysterious enclave for many reasons. It is the site of an unknown
underwater rock formation that we will inspect on board a glass-bottomed sightseeing boat (if the climate allows). An unknown
colossal head has been recently discovered covered by vegetation. It is the only place in Japan where
wild horses, endemic specimens of this island,
graze freely without fearing human presence. Lastly, its
imposing cliffs form fanciful and whimsical shapes hard to find anywhere else.
All of that is awaiting us to crown this incredible journey through the unparalleled Okinawan islands!
Having a whole day to explore this remote island is just awesome.
Without any rush, we will finish our breakfast, get some food at the supermarket, and ride around using electric bicycles. On the way we will pass by ancient Okinawan graves, a lighthouse and many other lonely places. To traverse this island through desert paths is always motivational to sing out loud.
There is a flight at 11:35am that will connect Yonaguni with your international flight to
go back home.
If you are planning to carry out this trip privately,
you may consider to add more islands on day 11, such as Kuroshima, Kohama and other islands easily accessible within a ferry ride from Ishigaki.
